Eastern Wild Turkeys In The Spring

January 11, 2008 by: Zach

Question: Chuck Johnson from Dallas, GA asks: “Hey fellas, love the website. I’ll just ask what is your most effective type of turkey call that you use when hunting Eastern Wild Turkeys in the Spring?”

Glad you like the site! Good to finally see a turkey hunter on here. The types of calls really don’t vary much with the different species of Wild Turkeys. A lot of picking a turkey call depends on the situation in which you are hunting. If you want to reach a long distance with your call then you probably want to use a slate or box call. I personally like the diaphragm mouth call because I can do complex soft calling when the Gobbler is at a close distance without him seeing any hand movement. Try some different calls out and see which one best suits you. Good luck!
