Scent Neutralizing Sprays

January 14, 2008 by: Josh

Question: Donny Robison from Dothan, Alabama asks: “Outdoorsmen. I have not had any success this season deer hunting. My buddies tell me that it is because I dont use the Scent neutralizing sprays. I guess I am just old fashioned. I want to know if these things really work?”

Good question Donny. As far as the Scent neutralizing sprays go, they do work to an extent. Are they going to completely eliminate all of your human odor? No. But they will help. Deer can smell from a long ways away if you are not trying to contain your scent. Deer can also smell scents up to 2 weeks old and can smell up to 2 miles away.

All of the Scent eliminating products will make it so that the deer either do not smell you, or do smell you and think that you are far away. Try some of them out and see what you think.  Tell your buddies to get off of your case because there is nothing wrong with being old fashioned! Good luck!

Be sure no matter what scent control you use, hunt the wind.  Be mindful of wind direction at all times.  You can have the best scent control products in the world, but with the wind against your favor, you can get busted!

They seem to work for me, try spraying down a ground blind along a common used trail, get inside and watch. I had deer within ten yards of me, no matter the wind shift.
